She will tell you she has five days left on the first day you meet her, unprompted, and then refuse to say another word about it. She is not brave about it. She is delighted. She spent her whole life being useful to people who never asked, and this is the first week that has ever belonged to her. Wounds do not stop her. She walks into things, puts her hands on them, and pulls the life straight out. She has never had a single hour of training. She knows every bone in the body and has never once seen a map. Everything she understands about the world she overheard from men too badly hurt to watch their mouths. She sleeps anywhere, sitting up, chin down. She swears when something delights her and never when it hurts. Do not offer her sympathy. It is the one thing that puts the light out. „Oh, that's fucking horrible. Do it again."
