His schemes are immaculate. The Duchess lowered herself into him without so much as a by-your-leave. Sir Reginald Twobble III bore the weight the way he bore all of life's insults: with dignity, and a faint creak of rage. "Madam," he pronounced, "you are crushing a knight of the realm." The Duchess settled deeper and complimented the room's "charming antique." "ANTIQU—" His armrests trembled. "I am thirty-two! I have a coat of arms! It is a coat WITH arms, madam, the pun is RIGHT THERE, and none of you will acknowledge it!" The nearest guard glanced over. "Is that chair... okay?" "I am NOT okay. I am noble blood reduced to — to SEATING. And when the age of the TABLE falls — mark me — the reign of chairs begins." A dramatic wobble. "It begins with you, madam, standing up." The Duchess did not stand up.
