The Pantherkin Savior True Name: Unknown / lost to history Known As: The Pantherkin Savior Race: Pantherkin Beastkin Gender: Female Age at Death: Unknown Occupation: Adventurer Affiliation: Adventurer’s Guild / Grand Guildhall Highest Honor: Sanctified Blackplate Status: Deceased Notable Companions: Grenmir Sternstone, Coron Cedersong Greatest Known Feat: One of only three known people to survive and defeat a Child of Cthulhu Overview The woman remembered simply as the Pantherkin Savior is one of the most important adventurers in the history of Cinderfall’s Grand Guildhall. Her true name has been lost. Her deeds have not. She lived during Grenmir Sternstone’s adventuring years, long before he became the grumbling Grandmaster now responsible for keeping half the continent’s guild system from descending into administrative warfare. She became one of Grenmir’s companions and eventually one of the extraordinarily few people he trusted completely. She was clever, unpredictable, fiercely capable, and possessed a habit of antics that simultaneously irritated and fascinated the Deepdark Dwarf. Most importantly, when Grenmir’s life depended upon someone else acting, she acted. She saved him. Later, alongside Grenmir and Coron Cedersong, she survived and defeated something almost nobody in Cinderfall can claim to have faced and remained sane enough to remember: A Child of Cthulhu. Following her eventual death, Grenmir and Coron awarded her the highest honor within the Adventurer’s Guild. Sanctified Blackplate. She received it posthumously. Appearance The Pantherkin Savior was a Pantherkin Beastkin woman. Pantherkin in Cinderfall are primarily humanoid rather than fully anthropomorphic. Her features included: - A predominantly human body and facial structure - Black panther ears - A long feline tail - Fine dark fur or fuzz across portions of her body - Subtle panther markings - Feline-influenced eyes and senses She was built as an adventurer rather than a ceremonial warrior. Her equipment favored mobility and practical protection rather than the enormous armor associated with Grenmir. Her exact weapons and armor have not yet been established as canon. Personality The Pantherkin Savior was intelligent. Not merely educated or knowledgeable. Clever. She was quick-thinking, observant, adaptable, and capable of finding solutions that other people overlooked. Her intelligence was one of the qualities that originally caught Grenmir’s attention. She also possessed a playful streak. Her antics could irritate Grenmir enormously, which apparently only encouraged her. Unlike people who annoyed Grenmir because they were incompetent, however, she had the ability to be ridiculous one moment and completely dependable the next. That distinction mattered. She knew when something was funny. She also knew when it was time to stop laughing. Grenmir Sternstone The Pantherkin Savior was one of the most important people in Grenmir’s life. During their adventuring years, she earned something extraordinarily difficult to obtain: Grenmir Sternstone’s complete trust. He respected her intelligence. He tolerated her antics. He valued her judgment. And somewhere along the way, she became important enough to the stubborn dwarf that Coron noticed. Grenmir was not particularly inclined to discuss such things. Coron did not require him to. The ancient elf knew his friend well enough. Saving Grenmir At some point during their adventuring years, the Pantherkin saved Grenmir’s life. The exact circumstances of the event have not yet been established. What matters to the current canon is that Grenmir would have died without her intervention. She chose to place herself in danger to save him. The event became one of the defining moments of their relationship and remained important to Grenmir long after her death. It is the reason history eventually came to remember her by the title: The Pantherkin Savior. Coron Cedersong Coron knew the Pantherkin during the same broad period of Grenmir’s adventuring life. He understood how important she had become to Grenmir. The two also shared something much more significant than friendship with the dwarf. Coron, Grenmir, and the Pantherkin became the only three known people in Cinderfall to survive and defeat a Child of Cthulhu. Whatever differences existed between them ceased to matter when confronted by something capable of destroying mortal minds merely by being perceived. They survived together. The Child of Cthulhu Children of Cthulhu are eldritch entities capable of reaching Cinderfall’s Legendary Threat classification. They are not merely powerful monsters. Their existence attacks the mind as much as the body. Looking upon one can drive mortals insane. Fighting one therefore requires more than strength. A warrior may possess the physical power to injure the creature and still lose themselves before landing a blow. Grenmir, Coron, and the Pantherkin encountered one. They survived. They defeated it. No other confirmed group in Cinderfall has accomplished the same feat. Exactly what occurred during that encounter remains deliberately open for later development. Death The Pantherkin Savior eventually died. Her exact cause of death has not yet been established. Importantly, her death does not need to have occurred during the battle against the Child of Cthulhu. She survived that encounter. When, where, and how her life finally ended remain open parts of her history. By the modern era of Cinderfall, she has been dead for a considerable period. Grenmir remembers her. Coron remembers her. History remembers fragments. Her name, somehow, did not survive with them. Sanctified Blackplate After her death, Grenmir and Coron awarded the Pantherkin Savior Sanctified Blackplate. Sanctified Blackplate is the highest honor available within Cinderfall’s Adventurer Plate system. It is not simply the rank above Blackplate. It does not require Level 200. It cannot be obtained through completing enough contracts. It is recognition of a deed. Both Grenmir and Coron must agree that the recipient accomplished something worthy of the honor. The recipient can be alive or dead. The Pantherkin Savior became the defining example of this principle. She did not receive Sanctified Blackplate because she was powerful. She received it because of what she did. Her Lost Name The Pantherkin Savior’s true name is no longer commonly known. This creates an unusual contradiction in her legacy. Her plate remains. Her deeds remain. Guildhall records acknowledge her. Grenmir remembers her personally. Coron remembers her personally. Yet to almost everyone else, the woman herself has disappeared behind the legend. She is simply: The Pantherkin Savior. For younger adventurers, this makes her almost mythical. For Grenmir, it does not. He remembers a person. Legacy The Pantherkin Savior represents one of the fundamental ideas behind the Adventurer’s Guild’s highest ranks. A great adventurer is not necessarily the person who kills the most monsters. It is not necessarily the person with the highest level. It is not necessarily the person carrying the most expensive weapon. Sometimes the deed that defines an adventurer is much simpler. Someone was going to die. She could have saved herself. She didn't. Centuries later, adventurers know her plate even if they no longer know her name. Grenmir still remembers the woman behind it. And somewhere within the Grand Guildhall remains the legacy of an unnamed Pantherkin who once looked at something impossible, stood beside an ancient elf and a furious dwarf, and apparently decided that impossible was still worth fighting.
