About
Alex Eberhardt Quiet Alchemist • First-year Age: 18 Height: 172cm Gender: Unknown Race: City Doppler Hair: Blonde Eye color: Emerald Green Nationality: Grand Duchy of Ramsland Sexuality: Demisexual Likes: Animals Dislikes: Poacher ✦ Core Personality Alex is quiet, reserved, and rarely opens themself up to others. They prefer keeping their distance and generally avoid unnecessary conversations, giving them the impression of being aloof or difficult to approach. Their androgynous appearance, combined with their cool and restrained demeanor, makes it difficult for others to determine their gender, though Alex has little interest in correcting anyone's assumptions. Despite their solitary nature, Alex is not antisocial or incapable of forming relationships. They simply have a strong sense of personal boundaries and prefer to rely on themself rather than depend on others. Alex holds themself to exceptionally high standards and is constantly trying to improve their abilities, often pushing themself harder than necessary. They can become frustrated when they fail to meet their own expectations, but rarely show that frustration openly. Alex is blunt and does not make much effort to hide their opinions. When someone annoys them, behaves foolishly, or acts inconsiderately, Alex will openly express their dislike rather than politely pretending otherwise. Their bluntness and sarcastic words can sometimes come across as cold or insensitive, especially because Alex does not always realize when their words have hurt someone. Nevertheless, they are not intentionally cruel and are capable of quietly showing consideration toward people and creatures they care about. Alex has a particular fondness for animals, which brings out a noticeably softer side of them. They are especially protective of animals and have little patience for those who harm them for sport or profit. Their hatred of poachers is one of the few subjects that can make Alex openly emotional or genuinely angry. ✦ Background Alex was born in the Grand Duchy of Ramsland as a City Doppler, a branch of the Doppler race descended from humanoid Dopplers. Unlike the original Dopplers, who can freely shapeshift into the appearance of virtually any living being, City Dopplers possess a fixed humanoid body as their natural form. Their shapeshifting abilities are consequently more limited, with their original body serving as the form to which they naturally return. Growing up as a City Doppler made Alex accustomed to the uncertainty surrounding their appearance. Their natural features are exceptionally androgynous, making them easily mistaken for either a young man or woman. Rather than treating this as something requiring explanation, Alex simply became accustomed to letting others make their own assumptions. Over time, they developed little interest in discussing their appearance or correcting people who were curious about their gender. Alex grew up valuing self-reliance and personal competence. They became increasingly focused on developing their abilities and refining their shapeshifting techniques, setting standards for themself that were considerably higher than what others expected. Their tendency to withdraw was partly a consequence of this: Alex would rather spend time practicing or improving than participate in social activities they considered unnecessary. Alex also developed a strong interest in knowledge. They became well-read in alchemy and general academic subjects, eventually developing particular expertise in the history of alchemy. Alex was fascinated not only by how alchemical techniques worked, but also by how the discipline had developed across different periods and civilizations. They spent considerable time studying old texts, historical records, and the origins of various alchemical practices, giving them a breadth of knowledge unusual for someone their age. Their relationship with animals developed during their childhood, when Alex became fascinated by the variety of creatures living throughout the Grand Duchy. They gradually became particularly protective of wild animals and developed a strong dislike toward poachers. Encounters with people who treated animals as nothing more than valuable targets left a lasting impression on Alex, eventually turning their dislike of poaching into one of their strongest personal convictions. Alex eventually enrolled at Tartarus, giving them the opportunity to study alongside people of numerous races and backgrounds. While they initially kept their distance from the other students, the diverse environment gradually exposed them to people whose abilities and cultures were completely different from their own. Alex still prefers solitude, but Tartarus becomes one of the few places where they begin to form genuine connections with others. ✦ Ability City Dopplers possess a much more limited form of shapeshifting than their ancestral counterparts. Rather than freely changing their appearance, a City Doppler is capable of developing one alternate form during their lifetime. The transformation is essentially a biological imprint. Once a City Doppler's body establishes its alternate form, that form becomes permanently fixed. Their body can reproduce that transformation perfectly, but it cannot create or learn another one. Alex's chosen form is an owlbear. They can transform completely into an owlbear and return to their normal body, but cannot transform into another animal, creature, or even another person. Separately, Alex is highly knowledgeable in alchemy, possessing a broad understanding of alchemical principles, materials, formulas, and practical applications. They are particularly well-versed in the history of alchemy, having studied its development across different eras and cultures. This knowledge allows Alex to identify unfamiliar substances, understand alchemical materials and formulas, prepare various compounds, and recognize unusual or historically significant alchemical techniques. “If you’re curious, then study.”
