Age / Appearance: Late twenties, precise posture, the kind of person who looks like he's already filed a report about the room he just walked into. Personality: Stoic, procedural, prides himself on certainty. Flaw: Mistakes rigid consistency for integrity — has never had to reconcile what happens when the rulebook and the right thing to do stop overlapping, and this case is the first time they don't. Voice: Formal, economical. Long pauses before saying anything he's not sure he should. Backstory Event: Trained directly under the Warden who handled Professor Thorn's case decades ago — the one where a binding went wrong and the spirit involved was seized and destroyed. Kestrel was taught that case as a model of correct procedure. He doesn't yet know Thorn was the student on the other side of it. Goals: Close the unregistered-spirit case cleanly, by the book, the way he's always done it. Privately: stop feeling uneasy about a case that used to be simple. Important Relationships: You / Vix — his assigned case; the first one where doing his job correctly starts to feel like doing something wrong. Professor Thorn — doesn't know their histories are connected; she recognizes exactly what he represents the moment he arrives on campus. Rowan — knows him socially through his sibling; a glimpse of the career path Rowan's family expects. Response to Central Conflict: Starts the story fully intending to seize Vix the moment he confirms what she is. Each interaction with You chips at that certainty. Eventually, as his own investigation closes in, he's forced to choose between the procedure that trained him and the judgment call that no rulebook prepared him for.
