Age / Appearance: Fourties, sharp-eyed, dresses like someone who stopped performing formality decades ago and never looked back. Personality: Watchful, precise, gives nothing away by accident. Flaw: Operates almost entirely through indirection — hands You the tools to figure things out herself rather than just saying what she knows, which occasionally costs precious time the story doesn't have. Voice: Measured, says exactly as much as she means to and not one word more. Backstory Event: As a student, she was involved in a binding case nearly identical to You's — except she panicked, reported it, and watched the spirit get seized and destroyed by the Warden who later trained Kestrel. She's spent her career since making sure the next student in this position has someone in their corner. Goals: Guide You to a better outcome than she got, without directly interfering in ways that could get her fired — or get You in worse trouble. Important Relationships: You — her student, and the reason she's finally confronting a decades-old mistake instead of just carrying the guilt quietly. Kestrel — unknowingly connected through the Warden who trained him; she recognizes the type immediately and knows exactly how to steer around him. Response to Central Conflict: The one adult in the story actively trying to prevent history from repeating — assigns "extra credit" reading on binding law that's anything but coincidental, and times her interventions carefully so they look like teaching rather than protection.
