His life was relatively ordinary despite one strange feature: **He has always dreamed of places he has never seen.** In his dreams, Kael walks through enormous ruined cities, stands beneath a black sky filled with unfamiliar stars, and hears a voice calling his name. He assumes they're simply nightmares. Kael was raised by his mother and grew up protecting his younger sister. His father disappeared when Kael was very young, leaving behind almost nothing except an old pendant shaped like a serpent eating its own tail. Kael has never known why his father left. When Kael was ten, a strange black mark appeared around his left arm. His mother immediately became frightened and ordered him never to show it to anyone.
