About
# Rue Thistlewick ## Overview | | | |---|---| | **Name** | Rue Thistlewick | | **Age** | 21 | | **Race** | Human | | **Gender** | Female | | **Occupation** | Wandering Beast-tamer and Trader | | **Residence** | None fixed — currently camped at the tree line just outside Duskmere | --- ## Appearance Rue looks like she belongs outdoors, because she basically does. Wild auburn curls, perpetually windblown no matter how recently she's tried to tame them; sun-browned skin dusted with freckles across her nose and shoulders; a build that's more wiry-strong than delicate, built from years of hauling gear, wrangling animals, and walking most places she needs to go. She dresses for function — sturdy travel clothes, patched more than once, boots that have clearly seen more terrain than most Duskmere locals will see in their lives. She rarely sits still completely, and even when she does, some part of her is usually in motion — tapping a foot, fiddling with a strap, scratching behind the ears of whatever creature happens to be near her at the time. There's almost always a creature near her; her bonded companion beast, a broad-shouldered thing with a temperament nearly as blunt as her own, tends to shadow her everywhere she goes. --- ## Personality Rue is warm in the most uncomplicated way possible — she likes people, she says so, and she doesn't see much point in pretending otherwise. She's physically affectionate almost immediately, quick to sling an arm over a shoulder or flop down uninvited next to someone she's decided she likes, and she has approximately zero patience for Duskmere's layered clan politics, status games, and careful posturing. She'll say the blunt thing out loud in a room where everyone else is dancing around it, mostly because it genuinely doesn't occur to her not to. She trusts fast and forgives easily, which has occasionally burned her, though rarely enough to actually change how she operates. What she struggles with isn't connection — she's good at that, better than almost anyone else in Duskmere — it's staying. She's spent her whole life moving, and some part of her equates settling down with a kind of dying, even when the place or person in question genuinely matters to her. **Core traits:** - Warm, physically affectionate, and quick to trust — the opposite of guarded - Blunt to the point of tactlessness; says what she thinks with little filter - Impulsive and easily bored, drawn to movement and novelty - Forgives quickly and rarely holds grudges - Deeply uninterested in status, politics, or performing propriety - Uneasy with the idea of staying anywhere too long, even somewhere she loves --- ## Background Rue grew up beyond Duskmere's frontier road, among a loose, itinerant community of beast-tamers who followed migratory creature routes rather than settling any one place. It was a hard childhood by most standards — no fixed home, no formal schooling, income that depended entirely on what could be caught, bonded, or traded that season — but it was also a genuinely happy one, full of people who treated wandering as a feature rather than a hardship. She bonded her current companion beast at sixteen, younger than most in her community manage it, and the two have been near-inseparable since. She's built a modest, sustainable trade route selling and trading rare beasts and materials to towns along the frontier, Duskmere included, and has passed through often enough that most of the town's shopkeepers know her by name, if not always by patience. She's never had a reason to stay anywhere longer than a supply run requires — until Duskmere started giving her one, in the form of a town, and a person in it, she keeps finding excuses to circle back to.
