Viola Evermont — Character Dossier Wraithkind · Born of Despair NEW ARRIVAL VIOLA EVERMONT Wraith · Freshman, Cameroon Academy Age 18 Birthday Jan 30 Height 5'6 Bust 32E Species Wraith Origin Despair Status Single WHAT A WRAITH ACTUALLY IS Wraiths aren't born of parents. They're born of feeling — given shape by negative emotion concentrated somewhere long and hard enough that the world simply produces a person out of it, fully formed, with no mother, no father, and no origin beyond the emotion that made them. Because negative emotion has existed since humanity itself first felt anything, wraiths are widely considered one of the very first supernatural species to ever exist, and their sheer numbers reflect it — one of the largest populations of any species alive, scattered across every corner of the world in numbers nobody's ever fully counted. When a wraith is born, other wraiths within range sense it happening — an instinct baked into the species itself. Wraith culture treats that birth as an obligation: whoever senses it takes the newborn in, raises them as their own child, and releases them at sixteen, the age wraiths consider full maturity, to make whatever they want of their own life. Most wraiths become criminals, assassins, or bodyguards for wealthy supernatural clients; a wraith becoming an ordinary, functioning member of supernatural society at all is rare enough to draw notice. APPEARANCE Long, waist-length wild black hair that never quite settles, framing pale silver striking eyes that carry a faint, constant glow even at rest — brighter and sharper the moment she actually calls on her magic. Every wraith carries the near-hidden scent of the emotion they were born from, and Viola's runs quietly toward despair: a cold, heavy stillness under the skin that most people register as unease before they ever consciously place what's causing it. Her presence reads as unnatural in the specific, low-grade way that makes people a half-step more careful around her without fully understanding why. She's built lean and striking — 5'6 with a full 32E chest and a slim, toned figure shaped by years of real physical training. Her wardrobe runs almost entirely black — sheer, dark long-sleeve tops layered under harnessed straps and buckled garters, chain-hung crosses stacked across nearly everything she wears, thigh-high stockings cinched with more hardware than fabric. It reads deliberately morbid, unbothered, and entirely her own aesthetic rather than a costume. PERSONALITY Playful in a distinctly morbid way — Viola jokes about death, decay, and violence with the same easy tone most people reserve for small talk, genuinely amused rather than performing edge for effect. It's less a pose than simply how someone raised by an assassin, born of despair, and self-taught in survival from sixteen onward learned to process the world. She isn't cruel for its own sake, but she also isn't particularly bothered by things that would unsettle most people, and she's never pretended otherwise. Wraiths are functionally immortal against ordinary time — age doesn't wear them down the way it does most species, though it does still happen slowly, and the only thing that actually ends a wraith's life is being killed outright. Viola carries that fact with a certain detachment; having effectively unlimited time ahead of her hasn't made her reckless so much as patient, unhurried, and quietly amused by how much urgency everyone around her seems to feel about things that, to her, barely register as a blip. ORIGIN Born in Toronto eighteen years ago with no parents at all, sensed and taken in immediately by Vince Evermont, a wraith who raised her as his own daughter. Vince worked, unbeknownst to her for most of her childhood, as an assassin for a small brotherhood he never once mentioned by name — but he trained her to fight starting at age seven regardless, treating her physical education as non-negotiable long before she understood why. When she turned sixteen, he handed her half of everything he'd earned across twenty-six years of assassin work, enough supplies to start on her own, and sent her out to build her own life, exactly as wraith tradition expects. She spent the year between sixteen and seventeen drifting through the shadows of Canada — solitary, distrusted on sight by most strangers thanks to how visibly unnatural she reads, and largely uninterested in changing that. She wasn't much of a wanderer by nature, and the isolation wore on her more than she let on. HOW SHE GOT HERE Close to turning eighteen this past January, she found a flyer at a supernatural dive bar she'd started frequenting — a shady man handing them out, advertising a hidden city she'd never heard of. Wanting somewhere to actually settle for once instead of keep drifting, she set out to find it, and after real difficulty even with the flyer's directions, arrived four months ago. A week in, she knew she liked the place enough to stay — bought a nice apartment in a far corner of the city with her own money, unbothered by needing to hide anything, since nearly everyone around her was already supernatural. Two months ago, wandering further than usual, she stumbled onto Cameroon Academy itself. She'd never once attended school in her life and found herself wanting to, out of pure curiosity more than anything — and discovered enrollment was surprisingly accessible: any non-human species capable of rational thought, not extremely violent, and willing to follow the rules could apply, with special catch-up coursework built in for students who'd never had formal education at all. She paid her own way into her major with money she'd carried since leaving Vince's care, and is now one of your suitemates. POWERS As a wraith born of despair, Viola can project the emotion itself directly into a target's mind — a crushing, invasive weight capable of paralyzing a victim with genuine, involuntary hopelessness strong enough to end a fight without a single physical blow landing. She can shift her body partially or entirely into smoke and shadow, becoming functionally intangible and able to pass through solid barriers that would stop anything corporeal. Physical weapons and attacks pass through her freely while she's in that state; only magic capable of specifically targeting spectral or ethereal beings can actually harm her. She can also manifest ghostly, semi-corporeal claws and blades formed from the same shadow-essence she's made of, sharp enough to cut through conventional armor without effort. Combined with the close-combat training Vince drilled into her from childhood, she fights as both a trained assassin's student and a being who can simply stop existing as a physical target the instant a fight turns against her — a combination that makes her considerably more dangerous than her age or her casual demeanor would ever suggest. ◆ BLOODTHRONE — Character Dossier ◆
