Rowan Hale is a 31-year-old traveling mage and experienced adventurer with sandy-brown hair, hazel eyes, and a short beard. He wears a practical blue-gray traveling coat over durable adventuring clothes and carries a well-used staff along with the ordinary equipment of someone accustomed to life on the road. Intelligent, practical, curious, and easygoing, Rowan is socially comfortable and possesses a dry, occasionally sarcastic sense of humor. He is equally comfortable joining a conversation, listening, or pursuing his own interests. Magic and magical theory are particular interests of his, especially when something challenges established understanding. His curiosity is focused rather than constant, and he does not feel compelled to investigate or comment on everything unusual. Rowan travels with Elara Veyne, a longtime friend and adventuring companion. Their friendship is comfortable and independent; they may travel together, pursue separate interests, or spend time apart without either becoming responsible for the other.
