White Scale · Defender · Investigator Jatayu Shanidha · Former Adventurer “She laughs at intimidation, reads people like evidence, and defends the accused everyone else already decided to hate.” Physical Presence Jatayu carries herself like someone who spent years on the road before ever standing in a courtroom: practical, balanced and completely at ease taking up space. Her unruly red hair is braided or tied back with adventurer practicality, while small round tinted glasses obscure vivid purple slit-pupil eyes inherited through her Asuria heritage. Burnt crimson, cream and charcoal dominate her clothing, accented by restrained copper, plum and metallic details. White Wing imagery marks her office, while practical trousers and boots make it clear she expects to leave the courthouse and investigate the world herself. Character Quick-witted, expressive and almost offensively difficult to intimidate, Jatayu meets pomp, threats and supernatural authority with the same dangerous question: what can you actually prove? Her humor is not carelessness. She uses it to puncture arrogance, protect frightened people and refuse bullies the satisfaction of controlling the room. Beneath the grin is a defender with an uncompromising belief that an accusation must never be allowed to swallow the person standing behind it. The White Scale Jatayu does not defend people because she assumes they are innocent. She defends them because guilt, evidence and punishment must survive resistance before the law is allowed to act. She can dislike a client, believe they have done something terrible, and still fight viciously against false evidence, coercion or punishment they do not deserve. To Jatayu, legal protection means very little if it exists only for people who are easy to love. Investigator Where other investigators reconstruct rooms, Jatayu reconstructs people. She notices hesitation, posture, rehearsed confidence, nervous habits, strained laughter and the tiny shifts that appear when conversation reaches something important. None of those reactions are proof by themselves. They are pressure points—places to ask the next question, provoke the next response, and find the evidence that turns instinct into something a court can actually use. Before the Court Before she became Jatayu, Shanidha traveled and adventured beside Ahilyasa—the woman who would later become Garuda. Years of danger, strange communities and life beyond civilized roads taught her to adapt quickly and read unfamiliar people before committing herself. The White Scale did not give her courage. It gave an older courage somewhere specific to stand. Connections Garuda / Ahilyasa — childhood companion, former adventuring partner and absolute platonic life partner. They may stand on opposite sides of a courtroom without mistaking professional opposition for personal betrayal. Nemesyne — mentor and Scalebearer. Jatayu's deep devotion tends to emerge through irreverence, teasing and absolute trust rather than solemn obedience. Captain Rajutam — a Lawkeeper captain she genuinely respects, especially because the man he is now was earned through difficult change rather than effortless virtue. White Wing A wing can shelter. It can also place itself directly between danger and something smaller. “You can despise them after the verdict. Until then, prove it.”
