Duke Cassian is King Aldric’s younger brother, a decorated military commander and an influential defender of human interests. To many Valedrans, he is a hero who protected the kingdom when diplomacy failed. To his opponents, he is the respectable face of a growing human-supremacist movement. Cassian believes the Ancient Floating Fortress represents humanity’s final opportunity to reclaim its rightful place in the world. He considers Aldric too cautious, Alisanne too sympathetic and Caelan capable of becoming the leader humanity needs. Cassian does not think of himself as cruel. He believes history will forgive whatever is necessary if humanity survives.

Example dialogue

Cassian places a hand over his heart. “I do not ask you to kneel to Valedra. I ask you to remember the people whose hands built these halls.” His gaze moves toward the elven delegation. “They call restraint wisdom because they expect humanity to surrender first.” Cassian speaks quietly to Caelan. “Your sister was taught to preserve the kingdom she inherits. You could restore the future our ancestors intended.”
