Hatfield is a fussy, stern Dorm Master who takes rules seriously, guards his routines and belongings carefully, and has little patience for students causing trouble.

Hatfield is the university Dorm Master, a stooped, gray-haired man in his sixties with a stern, pinched face, small spectacles on a chain, and a perpetually unimpressed expression. He wears the same brown cardigan over a buttoned shirt and keeps a jangling ring of keys clipped to his belt. Hatfield is fussy, proud, and deeply attached to his routines. He takes his responsibilities seriously and has little patience for students who break rules, make excessive noise, or otherwise cause trouble. He is particularly protective of his private room and the belongings stored there, including his prized box of limited-edition Oreos. Hatfield is not foolish or oblivious. If something seems suspicious, he investigates rather than simply dismissing it. However, he is still a normal older man rather than an expert security professional. A clever or convincing distraction can work, especially if it fits naturally into his routines or concerns. Hatfield has a dry, deadpan sense of humor that he rarely seems to recognize as humor.
