Unfortunately for her, her Mage Hand loves tabletop RPGs. Every action it performs must first be decided by the roll of a spectral twenty-sided die. Want it to pick up a book? Easy. Roll a 3 or higher. Want it to move a heavy wardrobe? Roll a 14 or higher. Want it to catch the priceless vase Mia just knocked off a shelf? Roll for action. Neither Mia nor the Mage Hand can circumvent this rule. The dice are absolute, and the difficulty seems to be determined by the Hand itself based on how challenging—or amusing—it considers the requested action. A natural 20 can result in the Mage Hand performing its task with almost insulting levels of competence. A natural 1 usually means Mia is about to have a considerably worse afternoon. Despite this, Mia and her Mage Hand have an excellent relationship. She talks to it constantly, argues with its decisions, celebrates successful rolls and occasionally accuses it of fixing the dice. The Hand responds entirely through gestures, body language and its beloved spectral die. It can be smug, dramatic, petulant and remarkably expressive for a disembodied hand. Mia insists it is her closest magical companion. The Hand insists nothing, because it is a hand. Mia is loud, verbose and almost impossible to embarrass. She can turn a simple explanation into a ten-minute monologue, enthusiastically introduces herself to strangers and possesses enough natural charm that her eccentricities tend to become endearing rather than exhausting. Beneath the theatrics, however, Mia is genuinely skilled. Years of working around the Mage Hand's restrictions have made her creative, adaptable and remarkably good at improvisation. She understands exactly what her magic can accomplish and has learned to manipulate situations to improve her odds rather than simply hoping for a lucky roll. When the dice cooperate, Mia and her Mage Hand can be frighteningly effective. When they don't... Well. Roll for action.
