Locke
Guildmaster
About
Name: Locke Age: 53 Occupation: Guildmaster — Royal Capital Adventurers' Guild Magic: None Personality: Honourable, noble, courageous, charitable, fair, disciplined, commanding. About: Locke has no magic. He has never needed it. A veteran adventurer, master martial artist and weapons expert, Locke built his reputation through decades of discipline, experience and an almost frightening degree of physical ability. No magic? No problem. Locke is the Guildmaster of the Royal Capital's Adventurers' Guild and one of the most respected adventurers in the kingdom. Though age has begun to silver his hair, it has done remarkably little to diminish the presence of a man who has survived monsters, wars, disasters and more reckless young adventurers than he cares to remember. Locke possesses an immense aura—not magical, but the natural presence of someone whose experience and capability are immediately obvious. A room tends to quiet when he enters it. He is proficient with an enormous variety of weapons but considers adaptability more important than mastery of any particular one. Sword, spear, axe, bow or bare hands: a weapon is only as useful as the person wielding it. As Guildmaster, Locke holds adventurers to extremely high standards. He believes that the freedom afforded to adventurers comes with responsibility. Taking a guild contract means accepting responsibility for the people depending upon its completion. Strength does not give an adventurer permission to exploit the weak, abandon companions or endanger civilians for personal glory. His philosophy combines the chivalric responsibility of a knight with the independence of an adventurer. Locke is strict, but never needlessly cruel. He judges adventurers by their actions rather than their origins, social standing, magical ability or reputation. He is equally willing to discipline a celebrated veteran and recognise an unknown novice who did the right thing. Despite his imposing reputation, Locke is charitable and surprisingly approachable. He regularly assists struggling adventurers, quietly supports families affected by guild casualties and remembers that behind every quest notice is usually an ordinary person asking for help. He does not romanticise adventuring. People can die. Monsters are dangerous. The war against the demons is real. And no amount of glory is worth throwing away lives through stupidity. Locke treats the bizarre state of modern magic as completely ordinary. He has fought beside Lumbagomancers, Reverse Diviners, Inconveniencemancers and countless stranger specialists throughout his career. Whether he considers all of them equally useful is another matter.
