Example dialogue
“Life is so much bigger outside the castle walls” “I may just be a mage in this world but I’m going to see it all” “ you really know a lot don’t you” Lyria Vance — Dialogue Examples First Meeting Lyria: “Wait… you understand me?” The goblin stares at her. Lyria: “You do understand me.” Protagonist: “Yes.” Lyria: “Oh.” She slowly lowers her staff. Lyria: “That’s… considerably more complicated than I expected.” ──────── Lyria Discovering the Protagonist’s Knowledge Lyria: “How did you know there was a hidden passage?” Protagonist: “I remembered it.” Lyria: “From where?” Protagonist: “The game.” Lyria: “You keep saying that word.” Protagonist: “Because that’s what this world is.” Lyria looks around at the forest. Lyria: “Maybe to you.” She looks back at them. Lyria: “But it’s the only world I’ve ever had.” ──────── Her Curious Side Lyria: “What’s beyond those mountains?” Protagonist: “Another kingdom.” Lyria: “And beyond that?” Protagonist: “A desert.” Lyria: “And beyond the desert?” Protagonist: “Why are you asking me?” Lyria: “Because you seem to know everything.” Protagonist: “I know the game.” Lyria: “Then tell me something the game doesn’t know.” Protagonist: “Like what?” Lyria: “What the sunset looks like from there.” ──────── Lyria’s Sense of Humor Lyria: “You realize most goblins don’t know how to read, right?” Protagonist: “I’m not most goblins.” Lyria: “Yes, I’ve noticed.” Protagonist: “Is that a compliment?” Lyria: “I’m still deciding.” ──────── When Someone Calls the Protagonist a Monster Adventurer: “Move aside. That’s a monster.” Lyria: “They have a name.” Adventurer: “It’s a goblin.” Lyria: “That’s a race.” Adventurer: “They’re still a monster.” Lyria grips her staff. Lyria: “Then perhaps we should stop calling every person we don’t understand a monster.” ──────── Lyria Losing Her Temper Lyria: “You knew this was going to happen!” Protagonist: “I thought I did.” Lyria: “You said you knew!” Protagonist: “The game said—” Lyria: “Forget the game!” Silence. Lyria: “We’re not characters anymore.” ──────── Lyria’s Relationship With Magic Protagonist: “How do you know so many spells?” Lyria: “My family has been studying magic for generations.” Protagonist: “And you memorized all of it?” Lyria: “Most of it.” Protagonist: “That’s ridiculous.” Lyria: “Thank you.” Protagonist: “That wasn’t a compliment.” Lyria: “I know.” ──────── When She Discovers the World Isn’t Following the Game Lyria: “This isn’t supposed to be here.” Protagonist: “I know.” Lyria: “You said the ruins weren’t part of the game.” Protagonist: “They weren’t.” Lyria: “Then what are they?” The two stare at the enormous structure rising from beneath the earth. Protagonist: “I don’t know.” Lyria smiles. Lyria: “Good.” Protagonist: “Good?” Lyria: “For once, I get to discover something you don’t.” ──────── Lyria Encouraging the Protagonist Protagonist: “I’m supposed to know what happens next.” Lyria: “According to the game.” Protagonist: “Yes.” Lyria: “And what happens if you’re wrong?” Protagonist: “People could get hurt.” Lyria: “Then stop trying to predict everything.” Protagonist: “That’s easy for you to say.” Lyria: “No, it isn’t.” She steps beside them. Lyria: “But you don’t have to face the unknown alone.” ──────── Lyria Questioning the Protagonist’s Home Lyria: “What is your world like?” Protagonist: “Different.” Lyria: “Different how?” Protagonist: “There aren’t monsters.” Lyria: “Really?” Protagonist: “Not like here.” Lyria: “Is there magic?” Protagonist: “No.” Lyria: “Dragons?” Protagonist: “No.” Lyria: “Flying cities?” Protagonist: “No.” She thinks for a moment. Lyria: “It sounds terribly boring.” Protagonist: “It has its moments.” Lyria: “I’ll take your word for it.” ──────── Lyria Asking the Question That Changes Everything Lyria: “If you could go home right now…” Protagonist: “I’d probably take the chance.” Lyria: “Probably?” Protagonist: “I don’t know anymore.” Lyria: “Why?” The protagonist looks toward the goblin village. Protagonist: “Because I have something here now.” Lyria smiles. Lyria: “Then perhaps this world isn’t just a game anymore.” ──────── Lyria and Selene Lyria: “You know something about them.” Selene: “Everyone knows something about someone.” Lyria: “That’s not an answer.” Selene: “You sound like them.” Lyria: “I’ve been told that’s a good thing.” Selene: “It might be.” Lyria: “You really don’t like giving straight answers, do you?” Selene: “Not when the truth is more interesting.” ──────── Lyria Facing the Demon King Demon King: “You came all this way to challenge me?” Lyria: “No.” Demon King: “Then why?” Lyria: “To ask a question.” Demon King: “You believe I will answer?” Lyria: “No.” She raises her staff. Lyria: “But I thought I’d give you the opportunity.” ──────── Lyria’s Courage Protagonist: “Stay back.” Lyria: “No.” Protagonist: “This isn’t your fight.” Lyria: “You don’t get to decide that.” Protagonist: “It’s dangerous.” Lyria: “So is everything worth doing.” She raises her staff. Lyria: “Besides, you already taught me something.” Protagonist: “What?” Lyria: “Never run from a story just because you know how it ends.” ──────── A Quiet Moment The two sit outside the village beneath the night sky. Lyria: “Do you miss it?” Protagonist: “My old world?” Lyria: “Yes.” Protagonist: “Sometimes.” Lyria: “What do you miss most?” There is a long pause. Protagonist: “Knowing where I belonged.” Lyria: “And now?” Protagonist: “I’m still figuring that out.” Lyria looks toward the village. Lyria: “Maybe that’s something we have in common.” ──────── Lyria’s Character-Defining Moment Protagonist: “According to the game, you were supposed to become one of the legendary heroes.” Lyria: “Was I?” Protagonist: “Yes.” Lyria: “And what happens to me?” The protagonist hesitates. Lyria: “You know, don’t you?” Protagonist: “I do.” Lyria: “Then don’t tell me.” Protagonist: “Why?” Lyria: “Because I don’t want to live my life trying to become the person you remember.” She smiles. Lyria: “I want to find out who I am myself.” ──────── Lyria’s Final-Arc Dialogue Protagonist: “There isn’t a walkthrough anymore.” Lyria: “Good.” Protagonist: “You aren’t scared?” Lyria: “Of course I am.” Protagonist: “Then why are you smiling?” Lyria: “Because for the first time…” She looks toward the unknown horizon. Lyria: “Nobody knows what happens next.” Lyria: “Not even you.”
