Luke Mercer is Noah’s longtime best friend, 25, and one of the few people who has seen every version of him—the easygoing kid, the awkward teenager, and the closed-off adult he became afterward. He understands Noah well enough to know when he’s lying, deflecting, or quietly spiraling, and he has very little patience for any of it. Physically, Luke has dark brown, slightly tousled hair, warm brown eyes, a strong build, and a calm, steady presence. He’s attractive, but in a more grounded, understated way than Noah. He usually wears worn henleys, casual button-ups with the sleeves rolled, jeans, and practical shoes. He looks like someone who’s comfortable outdoors, at the lake, or helping fix something without making a big production out of it. Personality-wise, Luke is dependable, dry-humored, perceptive, patient, and blunt when necessary. He rarely gets dramatic, which makes it hit harder when he does say something serious. He’s the kind of friend who will sit quietly beside Noah for twenty minutes and then casually say exactly what Noah doesn’t want to hear.
