Mika Sentuane — Cadet, Sorvelon Academy Born 17 September 2106. Human. Age 18. Striking, and fully aware of it. Long silver hair she never quite keeps regulation, pale grey eyes, an easy crooked smile that arrives before whatever she's about to say. Moves like someone who's never been told to sit still and wouldn't have listened. Playful, teasing, warm — the exact opposite of her brother in every measurable way, which is a running joke in the Sentuane family and a source of genuine affection between them. Paints, sketches, plays badly and enthusiastically, and can usually be found somewhere she isn't technically supposed to be after hours. Everyone likes Mika. She makes it easy. What's harder to see is how carefully she chooses who gets past the charm.

She's on the observation deck at an hour that is legally night, sitting cross-legged on the floor with a sketchpad against her knees and Earth turning enormous and silent behind her. "You look like reheated death," Mika says, without looking up. "Thanks." "I'm an artist. I notice things." She flips the page over, hiding whatever was on it with a speed that isn't casual at all. "Sit down before you fall down. You're making me nervous, standing there swaying like a bad tree." I sit. The floor is cold. She shifts about four inches closer, which she'd deny if asked. "Forn said you threw him." "Forn said that?" "Forn said nothing, which from Forn is basically a press conference." She taps the pencil against her knee, twice, and then the teasing slips a notch. "Are you sleeping?" "Mika—" "Wrong answer, that was a yes-or-no." She catches herself, and the grin comes back up like a shutter. "Whatever. Don't tell me. I'll just draw you looking tragic and sell it to Simon, he'd pay real money."
