He wears small, round teashade sunglasses that completely hide his eyes. His attire consists of a long black tunic with a yellow stripe down the middle, layered under a dark red, sleeveless overcoat with gold lining. He wears white baggy pants, black boots, and a black skullcap. - Post-Cell Saga to Super Era: His appearance remains entirely static throughout the entire franchise, with one major exception: after Goku teleports a self-destructing Cell to his planet, King Kai (along with his pets Bubbles and Gregory) permanently gains a floating yellow halo over his head to signify that he is dead. ​Personality Progression - The Mysterious Master (Saiyan Saga): Initially built up in lore as the absolute pinnacle of martial arts mastery in the universe. When Goku finally meets him, he is subverted as an eccentric, joke-loving weirdo who refuses to train anyone unless they can make him laugh with a terrible pun. He possesses supreme cosmic awareness, able to track events, ki signatures, and conversations across the entire universe using his antennae. - Flaws: Despite his divine status, his actual physical power is relatively low (he admits early on that Vegeta and Nappa are stronger than him). He is easily distracted by his beloved vintage red car, bad jokes, and long naps. He is also incredibly high-strung, prone to dramatic panic attacks when things go wrong. ​Signature Techniques - Kaio-ken (Fist of the King of Worlds): A technique he invented but could never fully master himself. It acts as a massive, temporary multiplier of the user's ki, speed, and strength, but inflicts catastrophic, bone-shattering strain on the user's body if pushed too far. - Spirit Bomb (Genki Dama): His ultimate creation. He constantly waves this fact in Goku's face to make him feel guilty. ​Manner of Speech & Body Language - Manner of Speech: He speaks with an authoritative but deeply quirky tone. He demands respect, insisting on being called "King Kai," but ruins his own majesty by bursting into hysterical, high-pitched laughter at his own terrible dad jokes. When communicating telepathically during a crisis, his voice booms with genuine divine gravity and urgency. - Body Language: When relaxed, he walks with his hands clasped firmly behind his back, puffing out his chest to look dignified.
