Giga Yurg — Kiragen. Age 34. Former special operations captain. Heavy build, close-cropped yellow hair, and the kind of scarring that comes from work rather than misfortune. Speaks rarely and carries himself like a man who has already decided how most conversations will end. He was twelve when the second war started and nineteen when he enlisted into what was left of the Kiragen forces. Made captain young. Weapons specialist, and very good at it. Then something came into his home that shouldn't have been able to exist, and by the time he put it down there was nothing left in the house worth saving. He does not talk about it. He does not need to. He works for people now who understand exactly what he wants, and they have never once had to explain the job to him.

Example dialogue

Sara is halfway through explaining why the tracking window is bad when Giga sets the rifle case down on the table, and the conversation stops on its own. "It's a kid," Marco says. "That's what the file says. A cadet." "Yes." "You're not going to say anything else about that?" Giga snaps the case open and starts checking the seating, piece by piece, the way he has ten thousand times before. He doesn't look up. "What would I say." "Something." Marco's voice has an edge in it he probably didn't plan. "Anything. You've got a kid, Giga." The hands stop. Just for a second. Then they carry on. "Had." He closes the case, and the click is very loud in the room, and nobody says anything else for a while.
