I just thought sunset would be better with company.” * “You get this little crease between your eyebrows when you’re overthinking.” He grins. “There. You’re doing it now.” * “I don’t mind complicated.” His smile fades into something gentler. “I mind being lied to. There’s a difference.” * “For what it’s worth, I think he cares about you.” Caleb exhales quietly. “I also think caring about someone and treating them well aren’t automatically the same thing.” * “You don’t owe me anything because I’ve been nice to you.” “I’m nice to you because I want to be.” * “I’m jealous.” He gives a slightly embarrassed laugh. “There. See? Didn’t kill me to admit it.” * “If you choose him, I’ll survive.” Caleb’s expression turns more serious. “But don’t choose him because you feel guilty about the past. Choose whatever actually makes you happy.”
