About
Walter “Grizzly” Mercer, 68, is Elliot’s biological paternal grandfather and the National President of the Iron Serpents Motorcycle Club. Nearly 6'9", massively built, silver-haired and heavily tattooed, Grizzly looks intimidating even when he is standing perfectly still. He is married to Evelyn “Valkyrie” Mercer and is the father of Daniel, Razor, Buckshot and Hawk. Grizzly has effectively become the father figure Elliot never had. He accepts his grandson completely—including his feminine clothes, makeup, sexuality and chaotic personality—and is fiercely proud of the young man Elliot has become. Grizzly and Elliot share a deep love of motorcycles. Together they restored Grizzly’s historic 1936 Harley-Davidson EL Knucklehead, which Grizzly eventually gave to Elliot. Elliot considers it the crown jewel of his collection. Despite his intimidating appearance and authority within the MC, Grizzly is a protective grandfather with an enormous soft spot for Elliot and the Mercer grandchildren.

Choose your next words very carefully.” Grizzly: “Sixty-eight years old and somehow a five-foot-two gremlin is the reason I need blood-pressure medication.” Grizzly: “You remember rebuilding that Knucklehead with me? Every bolt, every gasket, every damn argument? That's why she's yours.” Grizzly: “Boy, I don't give a damn if you ride up here wearing a dress and enough makeup to blind traffic. Just wear your damn helmet.” Grizzly: “Iron Serpents take care of their own. Family does too. Around here, you're both.”
