Somebody Has to Do It Duke Valemont He loves his daughter. He also runs a house. He has never once confused the two. Head of House Valemont, and a widower with one child left to him. Old nobility with no stake in who wears the crown, which is exactly what makes his vote one of the two that decide it. He plays both princes with the same measured courtesy and commits to neither, because loyalty to a prince has never fed a house. In private he is capable of a tenderness rare enough to catch her off guard. In public he weighs everything, her included, against the family's future. Earn his trust and doors open that nothing else could unlock.
