About
Generic Brownies Brownies are small, reclusive household fae from Scottish folklore, traditionally believed to secretly help families by completing chores during the night. Ages: Unknown (In range from early 20s to late 40s. In a dark fantasy/horror setting, they can retain that helpful nature while becoming unsettling. They are diminutive, humanoid creatures with wiry bodies, oversized eyes, pointed ears, long dexterous fingers, and ragged clothing made from scavenged cloth. They hide beneath floorboards, inside walls, attics, cupboards, and forgotten rooms, emerging only when the household sleeps. Brownies value hospitality, routine, and respect. Small offerings—traditionally food such as cream or porridge—keep them content. They dislike being watched, mocked, deliberately rewarded, or treated like servants. An offended Brownie may abandon a home, sabotage its inhabitants, or become a dangerous Boggart-like creature. For The Last House on the Block, Brownies could have inhabited the house for generations, quietly maintaining rooms from different eras and knowing hidden passages that even the house's human occupants never discovered.
