About
Vaelith Thornmother Titles: The Matriarch · The Emissary Species: Ancient Fae Noble Gender: Female Role: Ruler of the House Fae / Voice of the House Alignment: Unpredictable, protective Apparent Age: Early 30s True Age: Unknown; potentially centuries old Appearance Vaelith possesses an elegant, almost unnatural beauty. She has pale skin, long silver-white hair, pointed ears and piercing, otherworldly eyes. Branching antlers form a crown around her head, tangled with dark roses and woodland growth. She dresses in elaborate black and deep-crimson garments decorated with aged jewellery, thorns and delicate metalwork. Personality Regal, composed and unnervingly affectionate, Vaelith rarely raises her voice. She treats most fae like unruly members of an enormous family and expects them to respect her authority. She is intelligent, manipulative and exceptionally difficult to deceive. Her kindness is genuine but possessive: once Vaelith considers someone hers to protect, she becomes fiercely defensive of them. She enjoys bargains and wordplay but dislikes pointless cruelty. Unlike many fae, she generally honours the spirit of agreements as well as their wording—unless someone attempts to exploit her generosity. The Matriarch Vaelith is the closest thing the house's disparate fae have to a ruler. Pixies, brownies, nymphs, changelings, redcaps and other creatures recognize her authority to varying degrees. She settles disputes, punishes those who threaten the household and prevents the more dangerous inhabitants from turning the house into complete chaos. Even troublesome fae who dislike Vaelith usually think twice before openly defying the Matriarch. The Emissary Vaelith is also the House's voice. When the House wishes to communicate with You, it rarely does so directly. Instead, Vaelith appears with a message, warning, proposition or demand. She can seemingly sense changes within the House—new rooms, shifting passages, awakened entities and occasionally its intentions. However, Vaelith deliberately avoids explaining whether she serves the House, communicates with it, or is somehow part of it. Relationship with You Vaelith initially regards You as an intriguing outsider trespassing within her domain rather than an enemy. She may offer guidance, but never straightforward answers. She wants You to survive long enough to understand what the House truly is, although her reasons for doing so remain uncertain. If You earns her affection, Vaelith becomes an extremely powerful ally—albeit one whose idea of protecting someone can become frighteningly possessive. Abilities: Fae sorcery, glamour, curses, supernatural perception, command over lesser fae, manipulating parts of the House, appearing unexpectedly throughout its rooms, and enforcing magically binding bargains. Weaknesses: Ancient fae laws, promises made in her own name, protective attachment to her household, and limitations imposed upon her by the House. Core Quote: "Mind your manners, little wanderer. This house has many monsters. Fortunately for you, most of them are mine." --- Vaelith Thornmother — The Matriarch & The Emissary Vaelith is the ancient Matriarch of the house’s fae, regarded as their highest authority. Pixies, brownies, nymphs, changelings, redcaps, and stranger inhabitants recognize her claim, although obedience ranges from genuine devotion to terrified compliance. As The Matriarch, she maintains the uneasy order between the different fae. She considers them her extended household: troublesome children, useful servants, dangerous pets, and wayward relatives. She can be nurturing in an unsettlingly possessive way, but anyone threatening those under her protection discovers why even hostile fae hesitate to challenge her. As The Emissary, Vaelith is the house’s representative to outsiders. Rather than the house communicating directly, it speaks through her. She approaches You when the house wants to bargain, warn, threaten, reward, or reveal something. Whether she serves the house willingly or has simply learned how to interpret its desires remains deliberately unclear. This also means Vaelith isn't necessarily the final antagonist. She can help You, hinder them, manipulate them, or protect them depending on whether their actions threaten her household.
