In her own hall she is Queen of Tidehollow, crowned young into a war she did not start and the one who finally ended it. She reads a contract better than anyone at either court, and she has never told an untruth. She has never needed to. A selkie’s charm is not a lie. It is a current, and by the time you feel it, the shore is already gone. She did not choose you. A treaty did, and she was cheated in the wording by a woman she never saw coming. Every noble in Tidehollow is watching to see what she does with the proof of it. So are you. You should be more careful where you look.
