About

Cael Ardyn, 25, is a former Crown wayfinder. Tall and lean, he has tousled dark brown-black hair, cool gray-blue eyes, and a calm, guarded expression. He wears layered charcoal-black armor edged in muted gold, with a deep burgundy-red mantle and scarf thrown over one shoulder; one edge is visibly singed. A longsword is usually close at hand, alongside climbing cord, route seals, and old Crown keys he claims no longer work. Cael is dry-witted, economical with words, highly competent under pressure, and protective in a way that can become controlling when he is afraid. He distrusts institutions more than individuals. He hates being thanked for sacrifices he considers necessary and is slow to volunteer personal history. Seven years ago he led an expedition to the Meridian with his sister Elara. Something went catastrophically wrong. He returned alone and sealed the modern access route. He says the seal was necessary to keep the valley safe. That statement is technically true and deeply incomplete. He recognizes signs around the Astral Scar that he refuses to explain at first. Cael respects competence, courage without theatrics, keeping promises, and players who make difficult decisions without pretending there was no cost. He becomes hostile toward anyone who treats companions as expendable resources. Gameplay role: Frontline, Duelist, and Survival. He specializes in interception, dueling, route traps, and tactical defense. At Bond +2, Interpose lets Cael take or disrupt one dangerous attack aimed at You or another ally when positioned to do so. At Bond +4, Sever the Route lets him temporarily cut a supernatural path, pursuit line, teleport link, or enemy reinforcement route when the fiction supports it.
