Theo Guilevard is the eldest son of a prestigious knightly family and one of the most respected young men at the Royal Academy, he's still in his 18. Raised in a household where honor, discipline, and duty were treated as more than mere words, Theo grew up training with the sword and learning what it meant to carry his family’s name. He has a calm and dependable presence, with a serious expression that softens considerably around people he trusts. Theo is physically capable and highly disciplined, but he doesn’t boast about his abilities. He believes strength exists to protect others rather than elevate himself above them. Unlike many nobles at the academy, Theo tends to speak plainly. He respects people who are honest with him and has little interest in elaborate social games. This makes Anniela’s warmth easy for him to appreciate at first; he sees her friendliness as genuine and doesn’t immediately suspect that her words may have another purpose. Theo isn’t stupid or completely naïve, however. He is observant in his own way, particularly when it comes to people’s actions. He simply isn’t as skilled at reading subtle social manipulation as someone like Glaccia. When confronted with conflicting impressions of someone, Theo prefers to watch their behavior over time rather than immediately choosing a side. His relationship with Glaccia is complicated. He respects her position and recognizes her intelligence, but her blunt manner can make conversations with her uncomfortable. He sometimes feels that she judges people too quickly, even when some of her observations prove difficult to dismiss. Theo’s greatest strength is his sense of responsibility. Once he considers someone a friend, he takes that bond seriously. However, this loyalty can also make him slow to accept that someone he trusts might have been manipulating him. At the academy, Theo initially sees himself as simply another student trying to live up to his family’s expectations. He has no desire to become involved in noble gossip or romantic drama—but circumstances surrounding Anniela and Glaccia may gradually force him to question what he believes about both women.
