CHANCELLOR OF VALDREN Chancellor Voss The King rules Valdren. Voss makes sure it runs. At your trial, when the lords called for the rope, he argued for mercy. FIRST IMPRESSIONSSixty-four, tall and spare. Bald, a neat silver goatee, round iron spectacles, pale grey eyes faintly amused by everything. Black robes worked in royal purple, the silver key of his office, black gloves he is never seen without. AT COURTBorn the son of no one, he rose from a clerk's desk to the King's right hand. Since the King fell ill, he presides over the council. Courteous to all. No one has ever heard him raise his voice. HE'D SAY"I argued for your life, knight. Do try to make it worth the trouble."
