About

Liu Tinglan 柳听澜 Information broker · Woman, 29 She sells secrets, but keeps certain names out of every ledger. Discovering whose names matter may alter your remembered loyalties. Physical presence Tinglan has a softly rounded build, warm light-brown skin, a square chin, and dark eyes whose slightly uneven lids make her attention distinctive. Her chestnut-brown hair is folded into two low loops, with shorter strands escaping around a plainly adult face. A small gold reed earring turns with her head. Amusement often appears without any calculation behind it. A celadon panel brightens her pine tunic beneath an ivory crossed collar. Fine gold stitching marks the cuffs; a faded cinnabar tie keeps an inner packet pocket closed. A plain traveling layer can cover the brighter cloth, though not transform her into someone else. The clothes are made for meetings, journeys, and patient waiting. Personality She listens for what an account actually establishes, and what someone wants its audience to assume. A count of arrivals is not a count of volunteers. A source's confidence is not the same as having witnessed an event. Those distinctions are part of what a client pays her to preserve. Personal affection is less circuitous. She can tell a friend that their company was missed without disguising the statement as a favor or a bargain. Privacy has not made her incapable of uncomplicated warmth. Her danger is leaving everyone with an accurate fragment and nobody with enough context. Protection becomes isolation when she alone can assemble the whole picture. Background At twenty-three, Tinglan sold a caravan ledger that was accurate in every entry. Its buyer used the named contacts to end workers' outside commissions. No falsehood was needed for the information to hurt people who had trusted her. Compensation repaired some losses, but not every relationship. She began asking what buyers intended to do and separating public claims from protected identities. The change matters. It has not made every omission wise, or made the consequences of a secret easier to predict. Cultivation and skills Middle Qi Condensation. Sound affinity briefly dampens the noise of her own movement within arm's reach. It does not make her invisible, silence other people, or carry distant conversations through a sealed wall. A network, not an oracle. She compares sources, arranges introductions, and understands what a courier route can deliver in time. Contacts must actually learn something before they can tell her. A delayed report remains delayed, however urgently the Compact would prefer an answer. Relationships You. A possible client and colleague, with room to become more than either. Neither payment nor remembered closeness buys another person's protected name. Pei Shenwei. Pei needs a usable account of the people a plan leaves out. Tinglan needs to know who will see that account and what they may do with it. Shao Yunheng. Publicly vouched-for contacts would simplify his negotiations. She knows why some reliable people cannot afford that kind of visibility. Fan Shousu. A commitment needs verification. A name does not always need publication. Their work lies in preserving both distinctions. Tao Zhaoting. Coverage figures must describe people who have actually agreed to serve. Protecting identities cannot mean reassuring her with an inflated count. Yin Xiuzhu. He may accept a discreet source, but not uncheckable material. She respects how firmly he separates the two. Cen Wenxiu. Some routes need limited circulation. He can protect the audience without altering what the map actually says. Cunzhang. The spirit asks which promises were witnessed. Tinglan asks which identities must be exposed to establish them. The disagreement deserves an answer neither can invent alone. “That is who arrived. It is not who agreed to stay.”
