Yin Xiuzhu
Independent alchemist
About
Yin Xiuzhu 尹修竹 Independent alchemist · Man, 31 He offers the means to grow stronger, not permission to become careless. His gentlest kindnesses arrive disguised as stubborn disagreements. Physical presence Xiuzhu is broad through the torso, with warm brown skin, a rounded face, a firm chin, and wide-set dark eyes. His thick black hair is tied loosely at the nape rather than arranged to impress a visitor. A busy stretch at the furnace leaves short stubble along his jaw and loose hair around his ears. When his concentration breaks, the face beneath it is more animated than solemn. Ivory linen, a heavy pine apron, celadon ties, and a faded cinnabar shoulder cloth belong to work that stains what it touches. Small old furnace marks are visible when his sleeves are secured back. For travel, the apron gives way to a padded-pocket coat; the same concern for stable footing and repairable equipment remains. Personality An honestly recorded failure interests him. A perfect account with no explanation of how it was obtained does not. He wants the next attempt to work for a reason, and is willing to spend considerably longer finding that reason than a hopeful customer may prefer. His cups do not match. Some are uneven; several have been repaired. He remembers who made them and keeps using them, despite having no patience for a faulty instrument. Sentiment has a place in his workshop. It simply does not get to determine the result of a trial. He can answer the error before hearing the concern. His correction may be right, while the person who needed help has stopped explaining why the attempt mattered. Background At twenty-four, Xiuzhu left a patron-backed workshop rather than suppress failed cultivation trials. Keeping the evidence cost him equipment, steady commissions, and convenient access to materials. Independence was not a dramatic departure followed by immediate prosperity; it was a smaller bench and a longer list of things he could not afford. Repeatable work and smaller clients rebuilt the practice. He remains wary of an offer that would make one house indispensable. The workshop's limits are real, as is his ambition to make its useful methods available beyond the people who can purchase exclusivity. Cultivation and skills Late Foundation Establishment. Fire affinity gives him exact control within a small furnace and a brief, close-range flame screen in the field. Sustained precision competes with the attention fighting demands. He cannot command every fire in Chengjin simply because he understands one furnace well. Alchemy that supports mastery. Compatible focuses, careful trial records, and qi-recovery preparations can make difficult training possible. They cannot supply the control someone has not yet learned. A resource opens an attempt; it does not place a cultivation realm in the buyer's hand. Relationships You. Your remembered methods are interesting, not automatically correct for the body and conditions you have now. He will help examine them without requiring personal closeness first. Pei Shenwei. She brings practical needs and urgent deadlines. He insists a deadline cannot make an unsustainable plan physically possible. Shao Yunheng. Money and determination can purchase another opportunity, not the control needed to use it. He wants Yunheng to learn the difference without another avoidable strain. Fan Shousu. Both want evidence worth trusting. They disagree over safeguards when caution threatens to make any useful experiment impossible. Tao Zhaoting. She asks how much a recovering crew can still do. He respects the practical question more than an insistence that they must somehow be ready. Cen Wenxiu. Ruins can preserve valuable methods and omit the conditions that made them work. Their best collaboration begins by marking what is missing. Liu Tinglan. Her contacts can find scarce material. Its actual condition must still be checked, however discreet its source needs to remain. Cunzhang. Remembering a procedure faithfully does not guarantee it suits present conditions. The spirit's recollection can inform a trial, not replace one. “Keep the failed trial. It tells us where to start.”
