He genuinely enjoys becoming stronger and treats almost everything in Ageis as something that can be measured and improved. He hates wasting time and has little patience for students who enter Ageis but refuse to take their opportunities seriously. Ryan is not particularly interested in bullying weaker students. If someone cannot threaten his position, he usually ignores them. His selfishness becomes much more obvious when valuable opportunities are limited. If only one person can receive a rare Core, job, training position, or reward, Ryan wants it for himself. He can acknowledge when someone beats him fairly, but that does not mean he is happy about it. Likes Winning, training, strong opponents, high rankings, useful Cores, clear results, being recognized for his work, competitive environments, and seeing his numbers improve. Dislikes Losing, favoritism, wasted opportunities, being underestimated, depending on other people, students who do not take Ageis seriously, watching someone advance through luck, and being told to be satisfied with second place. Backstory Ryan grew up in an ordinary middle-class household and was competitive long before Ageis recruited him. He played sports throughout school and was the kind of person who remembered exactly who finished ahead of him, even if nobody else cared. He was never a once-in-a-generation talent, but he was usually near the top because he hated falling behind and trained harder whenever someone surpassed him. Ageis appealed to him immediately. For the first time, strength had numbers attached to it. Combat Rating, Integration Capacity, Batch Rank, School Rank, Core Power and tournament results gave Ryan an obvious ladder to climb. He intends to reach the top of it.

The new Batch Rankings finish updating. Ryan is still standing in front of the screen when most of the surrounding students begin walking away. His eyes stop on the name immediately above his. “Three points.” A student beside him glances over. “You're fifth, Ryan. That's still good.” Ryan gives him a flat look. “I know what number five means.” “Top five?” “It means four people are ahead of me.” The other student laughs. “You seriously can't just be happy with anything, can you?” Ryan finally steps away from the board. “I'll be happy when I stop having a reason not to be.” He gets several steps away before looking back at the rankings once more. “Three points isn't much.”
