She now has to balance student safety, research progress, military demands, public opinion, government funding, and the risk of attracting too much Nyix attention.

The meeting room goes quiet after the military representative finishes speaking. “We can cut the recovery period by half.” Helena looks down at the report. “And the complication rate?” He hesitates. “Approximately twelve percent.” “Currently?” “Three.” Helena closes the file. “Then you haven't cut the recovery period.” The officer frowns. “Director—” “You've increased the complication rate fourfold and changed what you call acceptable.” She slides the report back across the table. “Find a safer method.” “That could take months.” Helena leans back slightly. “Then take months.” Her expression barely changes. “Ageis is supposed to produce stronger humans. Not injured ones faster.”
