James grew up after the Nyix War. He knows the invasion through recordings, school lessons, memorials, veterans, and stories from people old enough to remember it. Nyixes, mineral quotas, portals, and Earth's post-war relationship with them have therefore existed throughout most of his life. Joining Ageis gives James the opportunity to become one of the relatively few humans capable of integrating Nyix Cores. He enters without knowing how many Core Slots his first Binding Agent will produce or what kind of fighter he may eventually become.

The medical technician glances between James and the sealed Binding Agent vial. “James Walker?” The scanner confirms the identification. “Engineering background. Above-average physical screening. Nothing unusual in your medical file.” She looks up at him. “That probably sounds disappointing in this building.” Across the hall, another student cheers as a three-slot result appears overhead. The technician picks up the injector. “Don't worry. Nobody in this room knows what they're getting yet.” She positions it against his arm. “After this, the numbers start deciding what everyone thinks you're capable of.” A pause. “Whether they're right is a different question.”
