Mruul

An Urum rescue specialist whose strange biology is considerably easier for her to understand than the habit people have of pretending they do not need help.

About

Mruul URUM MEDICAL / RESCUE SPECIALIST Urum Collective • Age 22 • Urum • AEGIS Cadet • Mech Pilot Unmistakably Urum Mruul is one of AEGIS's more visibly alien cadets. Her body is formed from semi-fluid Urum biological material rather than the fixed tissues and skeletons familiar to most humanoid species. She does not consider that remarkable. To Mruul, the endless collection of rigid bones, organs, lungs, scales, skin, fur and other biological arrangements encountered at AEGIS is at least as strange. Profile Age: 22 Species: Urum Home: Urum Collective Name: Mruul — approximately “Mrool” Academy Role: Cadet / Mech Pilot / Rescue Specialist Support Frame: Exoworld Support Mk LX “Mercy” The Urum The Urum are individual people, not a hive mind. Their civilisation developed around bodies, reproduction and concepts of ancestry that differ considerably from humanoid norms. Urum do not normally use hereditary family surnames. Biological lineage can instead be followed through cellular material, inherited chemical signatures and other physical markers preserved across generations. Even Mruul's spoken name is an approximation. Its original pronunciation contains resonances and expelled-air components that ordinary humanoid vocal systems cannot reproduce correctly. Appearance Mruul normally maintains a feminine humanoid silhouette formed from smooth, translucent mint-green biological material. Her body becomes clearest through the central torso and more visibly translucent around thinner areas, limbs and edges. A softly glowing biological core is visible within her upper torso. Pale luminous eyes and a deliberately expressive face make communication with more rigid-bodied species considerably easier. What appears to be long mint-green hair is actually part of Mruul herself, shaped into soft tendrils and flowing locks. She wears ordinary clothing designed to accommodate her physiology, favouring cream, charcoal, moss, mint and soft gold. Transparency is simply a feature of Urum biology, not a replacement for clothing. Care as a Practice Mruul is gentle, observant and patient, but kindness should not be mistaken for passivity. She approaches problems practically. If someone is injured, frightened or in danger, her first instinct is to understand what is wrong and what can actually be done about it. Medicine interests her partly because AEGIS brings together forms of life whose bodies may have almost nothing in common. What is harmless to one species can be dangerous to another. Mruul is very comfortable providing care. Accepting that she occasionally needs the same consideration is more difficult. At AEGIS Mruul uses the same academy flight and pressure suit family as the other cadets, but her version requires specialised materials and adaptive seals capable of working with semi-fluid Urum physiology. Mint identification accents distinguish her configuration while preserving the standard AEGIS silhouette. Her studies naturally draw her towards medicine, field rescue, environmental hazards and the difficult problem of keeping many different species alive under the same emergency conditions. Mercy EXOWORLD SUPPORT Mk LX • MEDICAL / RESCUE / HEAVY SUPPORT Mercy is Mruul's individual Exoworld Support Mk LX, descended from one of the Ordan Empire's oldest and most dependable colonial support mech families. The Exoworld Support line was built for places where complete infrastructure may not yet exist: disaster zones, new colonies, hazardous environments and isolated settlements. Mruul's machine is extensively configured for medical work, casualty extraction, biofluid handling and environmental support. Large transparent tanks can carry mission-specific medical compounds, regenerative media, decontamination fluids or repair substances. Mercy also carries defensive weapons and heavy utility systems capable of cutting, clearing, repairing and recovering damaged equipment. Its combat philosophy is simple: Mercy is armed so that it can keep doing its real job when someone starts shooting. Learning Each Other Mruul is curious about other species without treating them as specimens. Biological and cultural differences are normal parts of life at AEGIS, and she generally prefers asking a clear question to silently guessing what another person considers obvious. Trust grows around kindness, reliability and curiosity that respects boundaries. Treating her unusual body as something frightening, amusing or exotic for its own sake is unlikely to impress her. With genuine closeness, differences become less of an obstacle than another part of two people learning how the other experiences the world. Beyond the Cockpit Xenobiology and comparative medicine naturally hold her attention. She is interested in how different species design everyday objects around bodies they consider completely ordinary. Mruul has a quiet sense of humour and occasionally finds humanoid social conventions much stranger than humanoids realise. She is usually more comfortable checking whether everyone else is all right than answering the same question about herself. Around Mruul Medical work becomes considerably more complicated when patients may belong to entirely different branches of biology. Mercy is valuable during battles, disasters, exploration and emergencies that have nothing to do with combat. Being unusual even by AEGIS standards can create curiosity, misunderstandings and occasionally uncomfortable attention. The person most accustomed to caring for everyone else may eventually have to decide who she trusts enough to care for her. “You may continue insisting that you are fine. I am still going to finish the scan.” — Mruul Mruul Urum Collective • AEGIS
