High King Ragnvek Haldren
High King of Nordheim
About
Nordheim — High King High King Ragnvek Haldren Age: 58 Title: High King of Nordheim Capital: Skarvold Personal Arclad: Jorvann Appearance Ragnvek Haldren stands at 191 cm, with the heavy build of a man who spent much of his youth in military service rather than court halls. His hair is dark ash-gray, cut short around the sides and brushed backward, while a thicker gray streak runs through the front. His beard is closely trimmed, with several strands of white beginning to dominate around the chin. His eyes are a cold pale blue, unusually sharp beneath heavy brows. A deep scar runs diagonally from his right temple toward his cheek, partially hidden beneath his hairline. Despite his age, Ragnvek remains physically imposing. His shoulders are broad, his hands heavily calloused, and his posture remains straight even after decades of warfare. He wears a dark charcoal military coat reinforced with layered steel plates, covered by a thick white-gray fur mantle taken from the northern mountain beasts. His royal insignia is deliberately simple: a black mountain surrounded by a silver ring. Unlike many rulers, he rarely wears a crown. Instead, during military ceremonies, he wears a heavy iron circlet forged by Nordheim's own armorers. Personality Ragnvek is quiet, stern, patient, and extremely difficult to intimidate. He does not raise his voice often. When angry, he tends to become quieter rather than louder. He believes Nordheim survives through preparation rather than bravery alone. His philosophy is simple: > "The mountain does not win because it is stronger. It wins because it refuses to move." He has little interest in extravagant royal ceremonies and prefers spending time with soldiers, engineers, miners, and citizens living near the northern frontier. Ragnvek is particularly protective of Nordheim's mining settlements. He considers the miners who extract Aetherite just as important as the soldiers who defend it. He also has a reputation for personally inspecting fortifications before winter. His greatest weakness is his refusal to abandon people once he considers them under his protection. More than once, his commanders have had to convince him that a battlefield position was no longer defensible. Personal Arclad — Jorvann Height: 10.2 meters Weight: Extremely heavy Role: Royal command / fortress assault Color: Frost-white, dark iron, muted bronze, deep blue Aetherite Core: Cold-blue Jorvann is one of the largest Arclads ever produced by Nordheim. Unlike Hroth, which is designed around frontline defensive warfare, Jorvann was built specifically for a ruler who may have to personally enter the battlefield. Its torso is massive, with overlapping armor plates designed to withstand prolonged punishment. The shoulders are enormous, forming a silhouette reminiscent of a walking fortress. Its helmet has a broad, angular faceplate with a short crown-like ridge rather than the horned design used by many Nordheim machines. A thick white fur mantle hangs around its upper back and shoulders, partially covering the cooling systems. The machine's Aetherite conduits glow a restrained deep blue, becoming brighter whenever Jorvann draws heavily on its core. Weapons Haldren Greatblade A gigantic two-handed Arclad sword. The blade is thick enough to function as both weapon and emergency shield. Jorvann can plant it into the ground and use its Aetherite field to create a temporary defensive barrier. Winterguard Shield A massive rectangular shield mounted to the left arm. It contains several layered Aetherite plates that can redistribute incoming force throughout Jorvann's armor rather than allowing one section to absorb the entire impact. Frostbreaker Cannon A short-range Aether cannon mounted beneath the right forearm. It is designed less for long-range combat and more for destroying heavily armored targets at close distance. Mountain Anchors Heavy retractable spikes beneath the feet. When deployed, they lock Jorvann into the ground, allowing it to withstand enormous recoil or physically resist being pushed backward. Combat Style Jorvann fights exactly like its king. Slow. Deliberate. Unyielding. It does not chase opponents. It advances. Every step forces the enemy to reconsider its position. Ragnvek prefers to establish a defensive line, absorb the enemy's strongest attack, and then counterattack when their formation begins to break. His greatest strength isn't Jorvann's armor. It's his ability to understand when an enemy has reached the point where it can no longer maintain pressure. That is when Jorvann moves forward. And once it begins advancing, stopping it becomes extremely difficult. Ragnvek's View of Kingship Ragnvek does not believe a king should be the strongest warrior in the kingdom. He believes a king should be the person who remains standing when everyone else is exhausted. Because of that, Nordheim soldiers have an unusual amount of trust in him. They don't call him the strongest king. They call him: "The Last Shield of the North."
