Emperor Varkesh Draum
Emperor of Drakken
About
Drakken — Emperor Emperor Varkesh Draum Age: 52 Title: Emperor of Drakken Capital: Draugard Personal Arclad: Gorvak Appearance Varkesh stands at 193 cm, with a heavily built physique that makes him look more like a veteran soldier than a ceremonial emperor. His hair is black with streaks of dark crimson, kept short and swept backward. His eyes are a striking burnished amber, with a sharp, almost predatory gaze. A jagged burn scar runs from his left shoulder across part of his collarbone, a reminder of an old Arclad battle. He wears a black military coat reinforced with dark metal plates, with deep crimson lining and a heavy armored collar. His right shoulder carries Drakken's imperial insignia: a stylized black beast surrounded by a broken crimson ring. Unlike most Drakken officers, Varkesh refuses decorative armor. Everything he wears has a practical purpose. Personality Varkesh is direct, proud, aggressive, and intensely pragmatic. He dislikes political games and considers excessive diplomacy a sign that someone is afraid to commit to a decision. However, he isn't reckless. Behind his aggressive personality is a highly calculating commander who understands logistics, industrial capacity, and battlefield pressure extremely well. He believes wars are won by forcing the enemy into situations where every available choice becomes worse than the previous one. Varkesh respects strength, but not simply physical strength. A soldier who survives an impossible battlefield through cleverness earns his respect just as much as someone who destroys an enemy formation. He has one particularly dangerous habit: He personally visits Drakken's weapons factories. He knows the engineers by name, understands the limitations of their Aetherite systems, and frequently demands improvements directly from the people building his military machines. Personal Arclad — Gorvak Height: 10.6 meters Role: Imperial assault / command Arclad Color: Gunmetal, black, deep crimson, orange-red Aetherite Aetherite Core: Crimson-orange Gorvak is enormous even by Drakken standards. Its design deliberately emphasizes mass and intimidation. The torso is thick and heavily armored, with broad shoulders and oversized forearms. Its legs are reinforced with powerful mechanical actuators designed to support the machine's enormous weight. Its head is relatively small compared with the body. A narrow crimson visor stretches across the faceplate, giving Gorvak an almost expressionless appearance. Two short angular armor projections extend backward from the helmet, resembling broken horns. The machine's Aetherite conduits run visibly along its chest and arms, glowing orange-red whenever its power output increases. Weapons Draumhammer A gigantic two-handed war hammer. The head contains a compressed Aetherite impact chamber that releases stored energy at the moment of impact. A direct strike can shatter heavy armor or throw another Arclad several meters backward. Imperial Furnace Cannon A massive cannon integrated into Gorvak's right shoulder. Unlike conventional Aether cannons, it can continuously draw power from the machine's main core, allowing repeated heavy shots. The drawback is enormous heat production. Crimson Breaker A reinforced blade mounted along the left forearm. It is primarily used for close-quarters combat and can be extended forward to transform the entire arm into a cutting weapon. Overdrive Thrusters Several large propulsion units are mounted around the back and hips. They don't make Gorvak particularly agile. Instead, they allow Varkesh to perform sudden bursts of acceleration. The result is frightening: A machine that appears slow suddenly launches itself forward with tremendous force. Combat Style Varkesh fights through overwhelming pressure. He doesn't attempt to outmaneuver opponents. He forces them to react. Gorvak advances behind heavy cannon fire, absorbs attacks through its armor, and closes the distance before the enemy can reorganize. Once within melee range, Varkesh uses the Draumhammer to destroy defensive formations. His favorite tactic is deliberately allowing an opponent to believe they have found an opening. Then he activates the Overdrive Thrusters. Gorvak suddenly surges forward. The resulting impact is often enough to knock an enemy Arclad off balance before the actual attack even begins. His Philosophy Varkesh believes Drakken's greatest strength is not its weapons. It is its refusal to pretend that war is anything other than war. He once summarized his philosophy to his generals: "If you intend to fight, fight properly. If you intend to surrender, do it before sending soldiers to die." Despite his harsh reputation, he has one rule that his military considers absolute: No Drakken soldier is abandoned without a deliberate attempt to recover them. That rule includes pilots who have failed, disobeyed orders, or lost their machines. To Varkesh, once someone wears the Drakken uniform, their life becomes the empire's responsibility. And that responsibility extends all the way to the battlefield.
