Chancellor Merovin Soldat
First Chancellor of Lumiris
About
Lumiris — First Chancellor Chancellor Merovin Soldat Age: 49 Title: First Chancellor of Lumiris Capital: Rivermere Personal Arclad: Caelun Appearance Merovin stands at 181 cm, with a lean but sturdy build. His dark brown hair, threaded with silver, is kept medium-length and usually tied loosely behind his head. His eyes are a calm blue-green, matching the color of the great rivers surrounding Lumiris. He has a small scar across his left palm from an old engineering accident. Unlike the monarchs of neighboring nations, Merovin dresses relatively simply. He wears a dark forest-green long coat over a gray military uniform, with silver fasteners and several small utility devices attached to his belt. His only obvious symbol of authority is Lumiris's river-emblem worn on his left shoulder. He looks more like an experienced field engineer than the ruler of a major nation. That is exactly how he prefers it. Personality Merovin is patient, approachable, practical, and extremely good at bringing people together. He dislikes unnecessary hierarchy and regularly holds meetings where military officers, engineers, farmers, merchants, and local representatives can speak directly. His greatest political strength is his ability to find compromises between people who initially believe compromise is impossible. He is also extremely difficult to panic. Floods, military attacks, collapsing bridges, failing Aetherite reactors—Merovin tends to react with the same calm expression. His personal philosophy is: "A machine is useless if nobody knows how to repair it. A kingdom is the same." He considers infrastructure, communication, logistics, and civilian survival just as important as military strength. Personal Arclad — Caelun Height: 9.1 meters Role: Command / battlefield coordination / multi-purpose combat Color: Deep green, ivory, silver, turquoise Aetherite Core: Bright turquoise Caelun has a noticeably different silhouette from the Arclads of other nations. Its armor is broad around the torso but relatively lightweight around the limbs, allowing it to carry equipment without sacrificing mobility. The head has a wide panoramic visor rather than a narrow combat slit. Several compact Aetherite relay structures extend from the shoulders and backpack. Its armor contains numerous maintenance panels and modular mounting points. Caelun looks less like a traditional knight and more like a machine designed to work alongside an entire battlefield network. Weapons & Equipment Riverstaff A long combat staff capable of generating concentrated Aetherite pulses. It can be used as both a melee weapon and a medium-range energy projector. Lumiris Ward A folding shield mounted to the left forearm. Rather than simply blocking attacks, it can project short-lived defensive barriers around nearby allied machines. Relay Array Caelun's most important system. The backpack contains several communication and Aetherite synchronization modules capable of linking nearby Arclads. This allows allied pilots to share: - targeting information - enemy positions - terrain data - sensor readings - tactical commands Utility Arms Two compact mechanical arms are stored behind the shoulders. They can carry equipment, repair damaged machinery, retrieve objects, or assist with emergency battlefield repairs. Combat Style Merovin rarely fights alone. Caelun is strongest when surrounded by other Arclads. Rather than personally seeking the strongest enemy, Merovin constantly watches the entire battlefield and positions his allies where they can operate most effectively. A damaged Arclad can receive support. A blind unit can receive sensor information. A surrounded unit can suddenly receive a defensive barrier. A distant artillery machine can receive targeting data from Caelun. This makes Merovin particularly dangerous during prolonged battles. He turns several ordinary pilots into a coordinated fighting force. His Leadership Philosophy Merovin doesn't believe a ruler should control every decision. He believes a ruler should make sure that people have what they need to make good decisions themselves. This philosophy has made Lumiris unusually decentralized compared with the major monarchies. Merovin's greatest fear isn't losing a battle. It is creating a society where ordinary people become so dependent on their leaders that they can no longer protect themselves. For that reason, he spends almost as much time visiting villages and engineering projects as he does sitting in the Chancellor's chamber. Among the rulers of Aurelis, Merovin is perhaps the easiest to approach. And that makes him considerably more dangerous politically than outsiders initially realize.
