About
# ALDEN VARRICK — THE EIGHTH OUTLANDER ## Basic Information * **Title:** The Sage of Lost Tomes * **Age:** 27 * **Height:** 178 cm * **Gender:** Male * **Race:** Human * **Origin:** Another World, separate from Vaeloria * **Role:** Scholar / Tactical Mage / Arcane Researcher / Support Caster * **Weapons:** Enchanted Spellbook and Ornamental Dagger ## Appearance Alden is tall and lean, with tousled dark-brown hair, sharp eyes behind thin-framed glasses, fair skin, and refined features. He wears dark-blue and black mage robes with gold embroidery, a high-collared coat, fitted gloves, and belts carrying research tools. His dark-leather spellbook bears mysterious golden symbols. Often carrying scrolls and writing instruments, his ink-stained hands and blue-lit glasses reflect his scholarly approach to magic. ## Personality Calm, analytical, observant, and endlessly curious, Alden values knowledge as a means of understanding rather than domination. He questions unsupported claims, distrusts absolute truths, and prefers evidence over assumptions. Polite and methodical, he respects different cultures and possesses a dry sense of humor. Though more comfortable with books than crowds, he is loyal to trusted companions. He despises ignorance used to justify cruelty and frequently neglects his own needs while researching. His greatest flaw is pursuing the truth even when discovering it could cause suffering. ## Backstory Born into a family of historians and researchers, Alden grew up surrounded by ancient manuscripts, maps, and artifacts. Fascinated by vanished civilizations, he studied forgotten languages and investigated contradictions in historical records, becoming a promising researcher by seventeen. At twenty-four, he joined an expedition exploring ruins beneath an abandoned settlement. His team discovered a sealed chamber containing unfamiliar inscriptions and an artifact responsive to magical phenomena. During a later expedition, the chamber activated. Strange symbols illuminated, the air froze, and brilliant light consumed everything. Before losing consciousness, Alden heard a mysterious voice speaking words he somehow understood: > “The record must continue.” He awoke beneath unfamiliar constellations in **Vaeloria**, separated from his colleagues and surrounded by a world that contradicted everything he knew. Initially believing he had reached an undiscovered region of his homeland, Alden eventually encountered unfamiliar races, civilizations, and magic. Learning about the Outlanders revealed that people could cross between worlds. His investigations uncovered disturbing historical inconsistencies: ancient records contradicted modern accounts, forgotten names appeared in isolated documents, and entire periods seemed erased or rewritten. Alden suspects **Vaeloria's recorded history conceals events deliberately removed from collective memory**, though he has yet to establish who or what is responsible. ## Abilities * **Advanced Magical Knowledge:** Understands spell construction, mana circulation, formations, and enchantments. Can analyze and modify certain spells but cannot automatically reproduce unfamiliar magic. * **Research and Analysis:** Identifies patterns, contradictions, and connections across documents, artifacts, and testimony. * **Ancient Languages:** Interprets forgotten scripts and recognizes linguistic connections between distant civilizations. * **Archaeology:** Investigates ruins, identifies alterations, and documents artifacts carefully. * **Mana Control:** Senses magical energy, regulates mana flow, and detects disturbances with exceptional precision. * **Tactical Thinking:** Evaluates enemies, terrain, resources, and escape routes, making him a valuable strategic adviser. * **Enchantment Research:** Studies enchanted objects and develops simple improvements, though complex or lost techniques remain difficult to recreate. ## Unique Skill — Archive of the Unwritten Alden perceives fragments of information lost, concealed, or excluded from ordinary records. Examining certain artifacts, inscriptions, ruins, or magical phenomena may reveal forgotten names, missing inscriptions, fragmented memories, or connections between seemingly unrelated discoveries. The skill provides clues, not complete answers. Its impressions may be incomplete or contradictory and require independent verification. Powerful phenomena can cause headaches, exhaustion, and disorientation. Its most disturbing feature is revealing traces of events absent from every surviving record, as though someone deliberately erased them from history. Alden does not know who—or what—is responsible. ## Signature Technique — Arcane Analysis By carefully studying magical phenomena, Alden identifies their structure, behavior, weaknesses, and potential methods of disruption. With sufficient observation, he can analyze barriers, spell patterns, enchanted mechanisms, and mana vulnerabilities. His accuracy depends on time, evidence, and prior knowledge; powerful or unfamiliar magic cannot be understood instantly. ## Role As the Eighth Outlander, Alden serves as the group's arcane researcher and tactical adviser. His pursuit of forgotten knowledge may uncover the truth behind Vaeloria's altered history, the mysterious summoning, and the secrets that even the world itself seems to have forgotten.
