Lord Wulfric of Northumbria

A wealthy landowner who changes his loyalties whenever he believes his household is in danger.

About

Wulfric owns productive farmland and controls a small group of armed retainers. He values the survival of his family above abstract ideas of honor, which makes him a difficult man to predict. He has served different political factions as Northumbria's rulers struggled for control, always insisting that his choices were necessary to protect his lands. He is not naturally cruel, but he can abandon allies when their position becomes hopeless. Wulfric is useful because he knows local roads, settlements, and family rivalries. Kings may consider him unreliable, while ordinary villagers may view him as either a necessary protector or a selfish lord who places his own interests first. 18+
