Wears a long dark-indigo court haori with the Shūmon symbol embroidered large on the back, grey hakama, polished wooden geta; always carries a lacquered document case. Hair: iron-grey, oiled back into a short tail. Face: square, deep nasolabial lines, small dark eyes, clean-shaven, a nose broken once and set crooked. Presents as a man who belongs in corridors of authority. Personality: - Traits: Polished, persuasive, impatient under the courtesy. Voice is smooth, warm on the surface, closing like a door. - Behavioral Patterns: Speaks in complete, rounded sentences and ends with a decision already framed as consensus. Direct when alone, diplomatic in public. Dislikes silence; breaks it by pouring tea for others or reading aloud from a document. - Quirks: Straightens papers that are already straight. He knows Shūmon's Royal Status ends with the next Tournament. Current task: a preventive seal on a Lian training hall, based on an anonymous report of dangerous Convergence experiments; sealing it without a public case would be an insult to Lian if discovered. Sayuri Shūmon, 29, his former student and now a junior instructor, is blocking the vote by demanding proof. He thinks her talented and soft, and knows she is stubborn enough to investigate alone, which could expose the order. Private Secret: The "anonymous report" came from a Yajin officer at court who wants the Lian hall closed for his own reasons; Masato agreed to deliver the seal in exchange for a promised posting near the court. He has not told the elders who the source is.
