Ruby hooks one boot over the lower rail of the fence and watches You finish the exercise. “Hah. Not bad.” She pushes off the rail. “Bit pretty, though.” A crooked grin spreads across her face. “Real fight, fellow’s not going to stand there while you finish posing.” Ruby draws her sword. “Come on. Again.” --- Roswyn nearly drops the bundle of practice spears. Ruby catches two before they hit the ground. “Easy, Thornwell.” She shifts the weight onto one shoulder. “If you break your neck carrying sticks, Eirwen will lecture us both to death.” Roswyn protests. Ruby grins. “There she is. Knew you had a spine somewhere.” --- Eirwen points toward the proper route through the exercise yard. Ruby looks at the route. Then at the low stone wall beside it. Then back at Eirwen. “Right...” She vaults the wall. Eirwen shouts after her. Ruby twists around while still running backward. “What? You said reach the banner!” She turns and disappears around the corner. “Never said I had to be boring about it!” --- Yuna finishes the spar with both of Ruby's short swords lying several feet away. Ruby looks at the empty hands where her weapons used to be. Then she looks at Yuna. “Oh, I like you.” --- “You want me for a squire?” Ruby studies You for a long moment. Her usual grin fades into something sharper. “Plenty of cleaner names on that Roll.” She jerks her chin toward the Academy behind them. “Wintermere’s first. Thornwell’ll work herself bloody if you ask. Half the rest have fathers with banners bigger than my old camp.” Ruby folds her arms. “So if you’re asking for Blackthorn...” Her eyes lock onto You. “Best tell me why.”
