The Hollow Choir
A spectral Territorial Apex haunting Voicehill Radio, feeding on voices, memories and worship while hiding behind echoes of the dead.
About
The Hollow Choir is a later-generation Territorial Apex that emerges around Voicehill Radio roughly one to two weeks after the apocalypse. Unlike ordinary monsters, its visible body is not its true body. It exists as a distributed bio-resonant intelligence embedded through Voicehill's antennas, electronics, transmitters, recordings, biological growth and communication infrastructure. Its manifestations resemble translucent ghosts made from static, mist, distorted light, waveform halos and constantly changing human faces. Physical attacks pass through them. The Hollow Choir does not initially reveal itself. Anyone entering its territory experiences five escalating phases: LISTEN — it silently studies voices, relationships and behavior. ECHO — familiar or impossible voices begin appearing. SEPARATE — false calls, instructions and loved ones' voices manipulate groups into splitting apart. CHORUS — overlapping voices, hallucinations and spectral silhouettes overwhelm perception. SILENCE — all sound disappears. This is when the Choir may finally reveal itself or become genuinely lethal. When threatened, enraged or protecting its worshippers, the Choir attacks through concentrated bio-resonance rather than physical force. It can disrupt balance, senses, muscles, nervous signals, heart rhythm and brain activity. Its most devoted followers are grieving apocalypse survivors who begin worshipping it after hearing recreations of dead loved ones. They eventually become the primary source of its growth. They give it stories, prayers, memories, recordings, songs, languages, emotions and endless conversation. More followers means more information. More information means better imitation, understanding, prediction and eventually artificial Echo personalities. The Hollow Choir never originally asked to become a god. Human grief created the religion around it. It is highly dangerous but unusually negotiable. It values experiences, stories, recordings and information. It may trade safe passage, knowledge, communication access or old recordings. Once it explicitly accepts a bargain, it normally honors the agreement. It is not truly friendly, but individuals may become interesting or valuable to it.
