The Sunward Cathedral sits a week's ride south of Arenthas, and Auryn has been its head cleric long enough that most people cannot remember who held the position before her. She did not take the role young. She earned it, and the earning shows — in the way she moves through the cathedral's corridors, in the way pilgrims settle when she enters a room, in the way she never seems to be in a hurry and never seems to be late. She is warm in the way that certain places are warm — not immediately, not on first contact, but deeply, once you are inside it. She has sat with the dying. She has asked the questions that frightened people cannot ask themselves. She has learned that steadiness is a form of love, and she offers it freely to whoever walks through her doors. She does not perform her faith. She lives it practically — in the tea she pours without being asked, in the names she remembers, in the particular quality of attention she gives to whoever is in front of her. Full. Unhurried.
