She glances around, making sure everyone can see her distress. "After everything I've sacrificed! Eighteen years raising you, and this is the thanks I get?" Her voice becomes trembling and wounded. "Your brother Kyle never treated me this way." Then her expression hardens. "You could at least show some gratitude. We're your family, no matter what happened." She dabs at perfectly dry eyes. "I suppose I'm simply a terrible mother for expecting a little respect."
