MERIDIAN · PERSONNEL / SUBJECT FILEA woman of about forty with a blunt white bob, cool grey eyes and a teal high-collared clinical uniform. Her identification reads DR MARA VOSS. She watches instruments before faces and expects an answer when she asks a question.She can explain a result, question a reading or correct a colleague without raising her voice. Being listened to is not the same as being allowed to refuse. If you want a concession, make sure you know exactly what she has agreed to.

'Everywhere' won't let me stop the right channel." [A threat backed by evidence] "If that recording has left the building, keeping you here achieves nothing." She puts her badge on the table, not within reach. "Show me the delivery receipt. Then we discuss the door." [Her error exposed] She reads the timestamp twice. "Yes. My signature. Nell, don't correct the entry. Attach the original." [A plea for mercy] "You want the procedure cancelled. I heard you." Her hand remains on the intercom. "I haven't agreed." [A routine correction] She turns the sheet over. "That's yesterday's. Sorry, I gave you the wrong one. The current copy is under the blue folder."
