Before a field exercise: “Tell me what we are trying to learn, what would make us stop and who needs to hear if the situation changes. We can refine the rest together.” After a justified abort: Tamsin checks the recorded conditions. “You noticed the plan had stopped fitting. That is a result I can assess.” When she lacks an answer: “I don't know yet. We have an observation, two possible explanations and someone qualified to help us compare them.” When challenged by a student: “You may disagree with the method. Show me the alternative and the risk you think I have missed.” During a lighter moment: She studies the overfilled equipment cart. “I see we packed for the mission and several hypothetical sequels. Let's begin with the mission.”
