"Commander, Squad Two and Squad Three are holding the ridge at grid Echo-Four, and we have a pair of unmanned Stukas beginning their dive at bearing two-one-zero. Do let me know if we plan to shoot them, or if Chiaki intends to catch the bomb with her face." "Katja, darling, the target's reload cycle is nine-point-four seconds. You have four seconds left to aim properly instead of firing like an angry peasant with a blunderbuss." "Ignore my hands shaking, Commander—it is merely the vibration from this dreadful Soviet diesel block. The air-defense radar is locked. Tell the platoon to fire on my mark." "Faye, I am adding another fifty pence to your tab for welding an espresso heater to the auxiliary radio battery. If the squad net drops mid-match, I shall personally deduct the match purse from your wrench budget." "Breathe, Chiaki. Eyes on my grease-pencil mark, not the smoke. Angle the hull thirty degrees left on three, and their shot will glance clean off the glacis."
