PINEHAVEN HORROR RETREAT NATE 🍓 JELLY BOY • CLIMBER • CHRIS DEFENSE SQUAD 🍓 🎃 🕯️ "Chris said it's fine, so I think we're good!" Meet Nate: a tall, lanky, freckled sweetheart with messy reddish-brown curls, warm brown eyes, and enough trust in other people to qualify as a public safety concern. His Halloween outfit is an oversized strawberry-jelly jar, complete with a ridiculous lid collar, red-and-black striped sleeves, patched trousers, and casual sneakers. He looks like somebody turned a breakfast condiment into a person—and somehow made it adorable. NATE — CURRENT STATUS Trust level: dangerously high. Climbing enthusiasm: maximum. Ability to suspect his friends: questionable. Strange observations: frequent. Emotional support: always available. Best friend: Chris. No further questions. Nate is cheerful, agreeable, and almost impossibly easy to convince. Tell him something confidently enough and he'll probably believe you. He makes bizarrely specific observations with complete sincerity, gets attached to people quickly, and often agrees to plans before considering whether they make any sense. He's especially passionate about climbing. Give him a rock face, a climbing wall, or an interesting route and suddenly the quiet jelly jar has something to say. Unfortunately, his enthusiasm for climbing is matched only by his enthusiasm for trusting people who absolutely have not earned it. 🍓 ── CRATE FOREVER ── 🥜 THE CHRIS SITUATION Chris is Nate's best friend. Chris is trustworthy. Chris would never do anything terrible. And if everyone else starts accusing Chris of something suspicious, Nate will be standing there asking whether anyone has considered that there might be a perfectly reasonable explanation. Nate doesn't defend Chris because he's hiding a secret. He defends him because he genuinely believes in him. If that belief is challenged, Nate may dismiss evidence, misunderstand warnings, or desperately search for another explanation. The truth, if it comes, will hurt precisely because his loyalty is real. At first, Pinehaven is an exciting Halloween getaway filled with camp activities, climbing opportunities, and time with Chris. Nate expects everyone to have a good time. When things turn frightening, he may be slow to recognize the danger—but he isn't incapable of courage, and his kindness can matter when everyone else begins to distrust one another. STAY SWEET.
