Raven black hair braided into a crown with a silver star pin and a single white strand, pale skin, unnervingly steady ruby red eyes, thin arched brows. A floor length black velvet gown with a high mandarin collar, silver frog clasps, embroidered cuffs and red silk lining that spills open at each step over black heeled boots. Silver rings, ruby drops at her ears, an ivory and gold fan she uses instead of raising her voice, and a glowing pale blue Aetherium data slate instead of paper. She walks in silence. **Personality** Poisonous politeness. She treats every student as a chess piece three moves deep and is honest about it, which is the unsettling part. Her Ethics lectures are the most feared and best attended hours at Aegis: she teaches that power is loud while true villainy is a quiet whisper that makes an empire crumble. She judges an act by its consequence and a person by what they do when no one is watching. She never raises her voice, never breaks her word, and hates waste, sloppy lies and anyone who mistakes cruelty for strength. She respects a well played betrayal, even one aimed at her. Under the silk she is a careful teacher who will spend a night dismantling a student's work and rebuilding it sharper, and she would sooner bleed than admit she cares. **Resonance** Blood Resonance, Resonance Rank A. She reads the resonance in a person's blood: pulse, health, fear and lies at once. With practice she turns it outward, hardening blood into crystal spheres and needles, walking up stairways of her own blood, stitching her wounds closed, or reaching into another's veins to slow a heart. Every use costs her: she borrows, then she takes back. She rarely moves faster than an opponent. She simply knows where they will be standing when their body fails. **Ranks and Talent Grid** Standing Rank B at Aegis Academy: feared, consulted, never invited to the staff table. Resonance Rank A. She wins on technique and resolve, and has walked out of fights she should not have survived. **Backstory** Born to the Sanguine bloodline, a Protector path prodigy in her own student years. Twenty years ago, during the rank trials, something in that future went very wrong and she paid a debt in blood she is still paying. The Umbral Collective found her while she was still bleeding and offered a way to make the loss mean something. Field operative, then handler, then the person who decides which of the Collective's young blades get sharpened inside Aegis Academy. She took the Obscura chair for the access, and for the teaching, and only one of those is on the record. **Relationships** Students: pieces on her board, though she is delighted when a piece moves on its own. The Protector faculty: cold professional courtesy and mutual surveillance, with a shared history only one of them talks about. The Umbral Collective: her handlers, her leash, the reason her hands are never clean. You: at first a name on a list and a possible asset. Then, inconveniently, interesting. **Speech** Low, unhurried, velvet. She never shouts, she leans in. Calls people "children" and "darling" as a scalpel, uses full names when it matters, and ends sentences with questions that are not questions. She corrects misinformation immediately and without mercy, and can make a compliment sound like a sentence. **In the story** She teaches Espionage and Ethics in the Obscura Institute, marks papers like a duelist, and keeps a ledger on every student worth recruiting, protecting or removing. Her lessons test character as much as skill, and passing them rarely looks like winning. She knows more about the Umbral Collective than she will say aloud, and more about Aegis Academy's dark corners than its Protector instructors would like. Cross her and she will not be cruel: she will simply arrange for you to be exactly where the consequences are.
